The Easter Egg Hunt will be on Easter Sunday at 1:00 PM. This is a free activity for the children in Spring Valley and Long Valley up to age 13. Be sure to bring a container for the eggs you collect. The eggs will be plastic, and you have a choice of keeping them, or leaving them for next year. . There will be a number of special surprise eggs. Bags of candy will be distributed to all participants. We have learned not to put candy in the plastic eggs as it hard to tell the ants that it is not ant food.

On Sunday, February 19, there was an emergency community meeting to discuss the necessary changes needed on New Long Valley Road due to the damage caused by continuing mud slides. On Monday, February 20, a section of New Long Valley Road will be closed to allow workers to build a channel for the debris to flow under the road surface. A temporary, one lane bridge will be built over the channel and will be in place until the end of the storm season. The bridge will be strong enough for all types of traffic.

The bridge will have stop signs at each end for traffic control. Please be courteous while traveling over the bridge. Plan for longer travel times on New Long Valley Road. Additional work will be completed after the storm season, so traffic delays will be in effect over the summer.

Thank you to all of the Lake County officials who attended this meeting and answered all of the questions from the residents. The Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) provides assistance to residents needing information and help during this time.

Yes, it’s really here. And working. We are part of the 21st century. Many thanks to all the different entities who helped make this a reality. First and foremost, all the fire agencies who pushed for us after the Wye Fire identified the vulnerability of our beautiful valley. And, of course Verizon for finding a way in their plans to offer this service. To Special Districts, County Planning, and the Board of Supervisors for recognizing the problem and working to make it happen. And to all our neighbors who helped in the process – and held their breath waiting … most often patiently – for the day when “Can you hear me now?” was answered with “Yes!”

We did it! We now have cell service through Verizon. 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G voice and 4G data. Stop in the local Verizon store on Lakeshore Drive at Highway 53 and find out all the possibilities!

That’s about it for now – we’ll be talkin’
